Foyer Arts present an extravaganza of top quality jazz for all tastes. Lunch time singing - late nite drumming – funky organ grooves - & fresh combos
(1) Friday 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm DOM FRANKS’ ‘STRAYHORN’Dom Franks (saxes), Alex Steele (piano) with bass and drums.
Top contemporary mainstream jazz led by melodic post-bop saxist Dom Franks. A blend of groove-heavy originals and jazz flavoured interpretations of pop hits.
(1) Friday 8.30 – 10.30 pm ‘PARADISO’ / ‘LAZY SUSANS’Tom Johnson (fiddle/vocals), Pete Rosser (accordion/vocals) with irrepressible songs and foot stomping tunes born of 20 years of collaborative alchemy between jazz/tango squeezebox wizard and a Cajun/punk fiddling demon. With the Lazy Susans –Rachel Thomas (accordion & vocals), Zara Ramm (vocals & fiddle).
You will not be able to keep your feet still!
(1) Friday 11.00 – 1.00 am ‘TYPE SUN’Luke Harney (solo drum/electronics), Luke Spurgeon (visuals). Spinning tales in sound and vision, ritual and performance, silicon, bronze and maple, Type Sun has been travelling dimensions of space just a phase shift from your own.
(1) Saturday 12 noon – 2.00 pm ‘INDIGO LOUNGE’Valeka Algar (vocals/sax), Pete Rosser (piano). Valeka is an Aussie singer now based in Birmingham. She performs jazz, soul and pop classics, with added sax appeal.
(1) Saturday 2.45 – 4.45 pm ‘JAZZ JAM SESSION’House rhythm session piano / bass/drums will lay down the grooves. All comers welcome to come along and jam sit in play.
(1) Saturday 5.30 – 7.30 pm ‘ARON KYNE SUPERGROUP’Aron Kyne (piano), Stroud jazz hero recently graduated from Leeds College of Music, playing with a host of local jazz luminaries.
(1) Saturday 8.15 – 10.15 pm ‘PETE ROSSER GLOCTET’Pete on piano leads debut performance of Gloucestershire jazz octet playing original contemporary sounds, featuring Emma Ordonez (trumpet), Simon Day (alto Sax), Andrew McKenzie (guitar), Saffron Young (bass) and Andy Youell (drums).
(1) Saturday 11.00 – 1.00 am ‘BIRDMAN OF ALKIJAZZ’Tony Orell (drums/dj) with freewheeling improvisational powerhouse spins funky discs and beats the drums. You just will not be able to keep still.
(1) Sunday 12 noon – 2.00 pm JEANNE MARLOWJeanne (vocals), Pete Rosser (piano) – a class act with classic standards from the Gershwin/Kern/Porter era sung with style, verve and effortless swing.
(10) Sunday 2.45 – 4.45 pm ‘EDDIE PARKER/JONATHAN TAYLOR QUARTET’Eddie Parker (flute), Jonathan Taylor (piano), Thad Kelly (bass), Andy Hague (drums). Eddie was founder member of and composer for the legendary Loose Tubes big band, and went on to record with South African panist Bheki Mseleku and Django Bates’ Delightful Precipice. Jonathan is pianist with Tango Siemre, still the UK’s leading tango ensemble.
(1) Sunday 5.30 – 7.30pm ‘END OF WEEKEND PARTY with MC3 ORGAN TRIO’Matt Ratcliffe (organ), Matt Chandler (guitar), Tymek Jozwiak (drums) – hard bop, funk and contemporary grooves from Birmingham. Winners of the Budvar Brewed Jazz Competition at Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2010.
Join us to celebrate the first Stroud Jazz festival. This end of festival party promises to be sheer toe tapping pleasure.
